‘It isn't easy to define a pebble. If you're satisfied with a simple description you can start out by saying that it's a form or state of stone halfway between rock and gravel. But this already implies a concept of stone that must be validated. So don't blame me for going even further back than the flood.’
Francis Ponge, ‘Siding with things’ (1942)
‘Why Shapes What’, a book in an edition of 100, will be available to purchase. Designed by Kellenberger-White, published by Dittopress.
Vanessa Billy, born 1978, Geneva, Switzerland, based Zurich and London, gained her BA Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art (2001). Recent solo exhibitions include The Photographer's Gallery Project Space, London and BolteLang, Zurich as well as international group shows. Billy's Cahier d'artistes monograph funded by Pro Helvetia will be published later this year.
Previous to the opening of the exhibition you are invited to ‘Empty Gallery Interview’,
Vanessa Billy interviewed by Claire Nichols and Altair Roelants. Open Tuesday 9 February 2010, 6.30 – 8.00pm. The Empty Gallery Interviews is a series of live conversations staged with exhibitors ahead of their exhibitions. Set inside empty galleries across London, art writers Claire Nichols and Altair Roelants stage informal interviews that make public the anticipatory dialogue that exists between the exhibitor and the exhibition space.
