Rehearsal of a Cross-Dressing Stepfather
Public rehearsal Sunday 24 August 2008, 3 – 7pm, with a (very) short performance at 7.30pm
‘Rehearsal of a Cross-Dressing Stepfather’ is an attempt to represent the behaviour of a fascinatingly dysfunctional, but real person through the body of an actor. Using scripts based on recorded monologues about how many meals you can serve from a single goose from Aldi or the scandalous price and unreliability of generators, an actor, a director and a first-hand witness will explore the manner and mien of a penny-pinching, a-social, dress-wearing stepfather.
Writer and stepdaughter Sally O’Reilly will attempt to convey the particularities of the man in question to theatre director Zoe Pepper, who will then transform this into a performance, shaping the actor, Shaun French, to best embody his idiosyncratic ways.
SALLY O'REILLY (B. 1971, Portsmouth) is a writer, co-editor of Implicasphere and a dean of Brown Mountain College of the Performing Arts. ZOE PEPPER (B. 1983, Denmark, Australia) is a director and actress; she is the artistic director of Australian based company, Side Pony Productions. SHAUN FRENCH (B. 1963, West Yorkshire) is an actor and is currently performing in a Midsummer’s Night Dream in South London and Gothic Tales Volume 1 at the Etcetera Theatre as part of the Camden Fringe.
